Home Measuring up for Your Blind On the Tiger Blinds page which asks for the dimensions of your blind, you’ll see a number of other options. Here you can choose whether the blind size is to be Recess or Exact. If you want the blind to fit inside the window recess, then choose Recess having first checked that there are no window latches or other obstacles in the way of the blind. Measure the width of the recess from wall to wall in the position where the top of the blind will be fitted. For the height, measure in two or three places and use the shortest measurement. It’s important to note that the different types of blind require us to make adjustments to width and/or height in order for the blind to fit correctly; for example we’ll take a little off the height of a vertical blind to ensure the louvres run smoothly and don’t scrape along your sill or floor. You don’t need to do this yourself; we’ll make all the necessary adjustments for you. If your blind is to run outside of the window recess, then choose Exact as the measurement type, measure height and width of the recess and then add the amount that you wish the blind to overlap the recess. For a roller blind, note that it is the fabric size you are considering, so if you want the fabric to overlap by 30mm each side, then you should add 60mm to the recess measurement. So, to summarise: Exact measurements are the ones you need to take if you want the blind to hang outside the window recess. We will make your blind exactly to these measurements. Recess measurements are those you need to take if you want the blind to fit inside the window recess. There's no need for you to make any adjustments, we’ll make them for you. Please double check your measurements, and note that although we require these in millimetres, if you’ve made them in Imperial then you can magically change them to millimetres with the inches converter on that same Tiger Blinds page. Note also that fitting instructions will be sent with your blind. Measurements for conservatories are more complex; please contact us by telephone before ordering conservatory blinds.
